Series 3. Human-Been

Throughout human history, I think that human beings have fought the world in the form of themselves. In ancient philosophy, a deep reflection on the self was done. However, in the Middle Ages, it was the time of God, and since the Renaissance, I have come to think a lot about the authenticity of human nature. Human beings have constantly fought to find out what their human beings are at each age and to find their own value. Due to excessive material civilization and the loss of humanity, we have been worried about the nature of our existence until now. Especially, most contemporary art thinks that we human beings start with self-reflection.

The artworks that I want to show are the ones that started from the foundation of the loss of humanity, The most famous of the Dystopia book is “Brave new world” by Aldous Huxley. My “Human-Been” series are seriously affected by the famous novel. What is the main differences between a “human-being” and my “Human-Been”? My “Human-Been” means “It has existed for ages, but it does not have any future.”

The more we receive the benefits of material civilization, the more we are deprived of our humanity as the meaning of “the savage” was reversed in the novel “Brave new world”. Once we were exposed to material civilization, it would bring a fetter with us eventually.
